From Jean.........at Journeys

Fall is drawing to an end and winter is certainly upon us.  November has many of those crisp cool days that I learned to love living in New England.  Attending college in Maine gave me an abbreviated fall as the really cold weather seemed to arrive early every year.  I intend to enjoy the remaining color on the trees, the perfect temperatures for brisk walks and the anticipation of the upcoming holidays.

You will not see us 'rushing' the holidays at Journeys of Life. I hate how the big box stores go right from Halloween to Christmas with no time to acknowledge or celebrate Thanksgiving - my personal favorite holiday.  Thanksgiving was when we played the rival No Andover vs Andover football game when I was in high school.  Thanksgiving was when my parents came to visit in Pittsburgh.  My dad would arrive the night before with fresh live lobster in tow for the pre-Thanksgiving feast. Thanksgiving was the day my father passed away 29 years ago .  That year certainly changed Thanksgiving for me forever.  Yet, it is still my favorite holiday - time to gather family and friends that are still here with us and celebrate those who are not.

Thanksgiving is a special time to remember all that we have to be grateful for. My list is long:  my amazing husband, two wonderful children, my new found healthy lifestyle, Journeys and all the people who make it happen every day.  I am grateful that I have a warm place to rest my head each night, pleanty of food to fill my body, wonderful friends to nourish my soul and theknwoledge in my heart that no matter what - everything will be alright.  And not to be forgotten on my gratitude list are all of you, our wonderful, loyal customers who continue to support Journeys through thick and thin.  Without you, Journeys would not be.  And for that I am deeply grateful.

Read on to hear about a special author visiting this weekend, readers and counselors with sessions this month, and a very special book now available at Journeys.  Later this month I will reveal my picks for holiday gift giving - a yearly tadition for this time of year.  I hope to see you soon at Journeys.

The Book That Started It All.......

An extraordinary reproduction of the original working manuscript of Alcoholics Anonymous, with essays and notes by a panel of celebrated AA historians.

The Book That Started It All offers fresh insights into the history and foundation of the revolutionary Alcoholics Anonymous program. Reproduced in this elegant gift edition with essays and notes by a panel of celebrated AA historians, the original working manuscript is the missing link in our understanding of what transpired between AA founder Bill Wilson's first draft of Alcoholics Anonymous and the first published edition. In January 1939, Wilson and other AA founders distributed 400 copies of his typescript to everyone they could think of "who might be concerned with the problem of alcoholism," to test out the program. As the loan copies were returned, suggestions for revision were considered and written out in colored pencil on one master copy that was eventually submitted for publication.

The many changes made in black, green, and red on page after page are shown here in their original form, revealing the opinions, debates, and discussions that went into making the Big Book.

The Book That Started It All weighs more than five pounds, is 11.25" wide and 13.5" tall, with a 22.5" span when open.  It is a treasure for anyone in the program.  $65
