The snow seems to be melting some but there are still parking igloos all over the city. The financial challenges of the past year have been enormous for all of us. I don't ever remember having such a challenging February in 20 years. Some businesses have been impacted more than others and Journeys of Life is no exception. Between the sagging economy and the major snowstorms of February we are, like so many other businesses, feeling bruised and battered. Quite frankly, it has become very difficult for small, independent businesses to stay afloat in these rough economic waters.

These difficult times remind me of the Chinese character for "crisis" which also represents the concept "opportunity". We have the opportunity to take a hard look at our prices and product mix, ramp up our customer service, add more promotions to save you money and continue to look for the best products we can find. You all have the opportunity to visit your favorite independent businesses, shop and spend some money. Cinda Baxter, founder of The 350 project, reminds us of an important concept - choose three independent businesses you would hate to see leave and spend $50 a month amongst these three stores each month. It may not seem like a lot but it could make all the difference in the world for those businesses and the community they serve.

Journeys is blessed with with a fantastic staff and loyal customers. With your help we can continue to carry out our mission - to help people on their journey: where they've been, where they are, and where they would like to go. It is no coincidence that Aquamarine (aqua - water; mare - sea) is the stone for this water sign month. According to legend, aquamarine was found in the treasure chests of mermaids, and thought to be a lucky stone for sailors and travelers.   It is the stone of courage and serenity. It is said to accelerate the intellectual reasoning process and enhances knowledge. Aquamarine gives the strength you need to take responsibility for yourself and keep you on a persistent path towards your goals, helping to guarantee success. It stimulates and activates the throat chakra making it a good stone for communication. It can prmote soothing and calm while also promoting confidence. Be sure to have aquamarine in your pocket when you travel or take a cruise.   Bloodstone is considered an alternate March stone.

Flower: Daffodil
The birthday flower for March is the Daffodil or Jonquil.   In the language of flowers they symbolize chivalry, respect, modesty and faithfulness. The daffodil is a dependable spring flower, one of the earliest to bloom and brings with it hope.

Jean is constantly looking for great new product when she goes to Market and we think this is a real winner. Finding art and beauty in objects that are otherwise ignored, Greg and Dilynn Puckett, the team behind Language Art, travel the country photographing letters in signs, shapes and architectural elements. Have a Heart for Hunger Food Drive Extended through March 15th

Maybe it was the snowy weather. Or perhaps you didn't have time to prepare when we announced our Food Drive in mid February. What ever the case, we are repeating our efforts to collect canned foods and dry goods for the EECM Food Pantry.

Get 1% per can off you entire purchase the day you bring in canned or boxed foods up to a total of 15% for 15 cans.

The Food Pantry is in need of tuna, rice, canned fruits & vegetables, peanut butter, mac & cheese, dried beans, pasta & sauce & dry cereal. We will also accept cash donations. Our Food Drive will go on through March 15th.

March Workshops and Events

What a great line-up of classes, workshops and private sessions for March. All classes have a minimum attendance requirement. So, please call at least 3 days in advance if you are interested in participating. Classes will be cancelled if there is insufficient pre-registrations.

Tuesday, Mar 16 - Akashic Records Circle
Stephanie Charles will introduce you to the Akashic Records, tell what they are about and give an opprtunity to ask questions of the Record Keepers. A great way to learn about the Records! Only $10 for this great opportunity to experience the Akashic Records. Attendees may get mini readings depending on time.

Tuesday, Mar 23 - The Four Elements
Take your creative visualization to creative manifestation with this introduction to the 4 Elements. Join Journeys very own Cian who will share his 20+ years of metaphysical studies & practice as you learn how to balance the elements within you and around you, as well as apply them to bringing yourself those things you've been asking for. It's all about making your thoughts a reality with these 4 natural building blocks. ($20)

Monday, Mar 29 - Psychic Living: Letting Go & Trusting the Wisdom of Spirit
Join Victoria Zaitz, a professional psychic, spiritual counselor, and intuitive coach for this in-depth exploration of your own abilities. Break through blocks, inhibitions, and fears to live a life led by divine guidance. This series will boost your confidence in your own ability and give you the tools and skills you need to grow and maintain it. Learn how to use your intuition to “read” for yourself and others. This class will be very interactive, focusing heavily on experience--We will meditate, chant, sing, create, and learn to use our abilities while having fun. This class is suitable for all students, beginners through intermediate level. You need not attend the entire series. Every other Monday, beginning March 29, 2010 7-9 PM, (alternate weeks) $120 for 6-week series, or $25 per class.

First Monday of the Month - Monthy Reiki Exchange - Deb Donoghue
Gather for a traditional Reiki Energy Exchange open to all individuals and practitioners attuned to Reiki energy. Begin the evening with a meditation circle and then break off into small groups to provide Reiki energy for each other. It is exciting to see this group growing each month.

Tues/Thurs, Mar 9 & 11 - Rainbow Star Reiki Level I
Become attuned to not only a wonderful healing modality, but a loving energy that will help you awaken to a deeper level of awareness. You will receive four attunements to open you up to Reiki energies as well as an additional attunement at no extra charge for the Rainbow Light. Take an amazing second step in the process of using healing powers of Reiki. Receive additional attunements as well as learn three of the Sacred Reiki Symbols.
