What an amazing week we've had with all the snow not to mention the lack of removal of all this snow.. I am rather familiar with big snow storms. I grew up on the eastern shore of Massachusetts where Nor'easters were an annual event. I pent my undergrad years in southern Maine where we got lots of snow and never a snow day because we were all residential students. A year in the Berkshire Mountains was enough to make me want to go to grad school in Florida rather an Pittsburgh. I remember the snow of 1993. We were on our way to Disney World with the kids for Spring Break and the snow had started. All flights were eventually cancelled and the Parkway was closed as we tried to get home to Sq. Hill. We ended up staying two days at the Holiday Inn in Greentree. The snow of February 2003 closed the store for a few days and Hal did an amazing job getting rid of all the snow both at the store and at home. This one will go in to the record books and we can tell our grandchildren about the blizzards of 2010! I hope you have all survived unscathed. Remember there is an enclosed parking garage on Bellefonte and the outside lots are plowed and waiting for you.

The birthday flower for February is the Iris. The warm, deep color of the iris is a harbringer of the luxuries of spring which are hopefully just around the corner. Irises express peace of mind, Friendship, Faith, Hope, and Wisdom.
Valentine’s Day
A Day to Express Love
Every February 14th candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. Valentine’s Day has often been attributed to several martyred saints named Valentine; however, the custom of expressing love to your sweetheart on February 14th seems to have more to do with the ancient Roman feast of Lupercalia to honor and thank the wolf god who watched over the Roman shepherds and their flocks. While Lupercus doesn't seem to have much to do with romance, the custom where men drew lots for love randomly from a box on February 15 suggests otherwise. The custom of sending paper valentines began in the 1800’s and has remained popular to this day.
